3.environment，circumstances，surroundings, background
environment是指影响人们生活的环境，自然环境等。

surroundings强调“周围”的意思，词义较狭窄，泛指某人或某事物周围的环境。
circumstance强调“条件”的意思，指某事物或行为发生的条件，情境。
background可以指某人的出身背景，也可以指代（事情或情况的）前提或背景。
例如：
The twins were separated at birth and brought up in totally different environment.

这对双胞胎一出生就被分开，在完全不同的环境中长大。
The older live happily in beautiful surroundings provided by his foster mother.
老年人在养母提供的美丽环境中快乐地生活着。
She was forced by circumstances to do this.

她是迫于形势才这样做的。
The love story unfolds with a background of civil war.
爱情故事以内战为背景展开。

4.hurt，injury，damage，wound

hurt普通用语，即可指肉体上的伤害，也可精神上，感情上的伤害。
injury比hurt正式，hurt多指伤痛，而injury则指损害健康，成就，容貌等，强调功能的损失。
damage主要指对于物的损害，强调对于价值，用途，外观等所造成的损失，这种损失或因自然灾

害所致，或因人为造成。
wound指枪伤，刀伤，刺伤等皮肉之伤，是出血的，严重的伤，特指战场上的受伤，还可以理解
成伤口。
例如：
It was a hurt that would take a long time to heal.

这是一种需要很长时间才能愈合的伤害。
Two players are out of team because of injury
两名球员因伤退出了球队

The storm didn’t do much damage to this city.
