5.whether & if

（1）只能用whether不能用if的几种情况
①强调两方面的选择，尤其句中有or not时
例如：

Let me know whether you can come or not.
让我知道你能不能来。
②宾语从句前置时
例如：
Whether this is true, I can’t say.

这是否属实，我不能说。
③引导主语、表语、同位语从句时
例如：

Whether Tom will come to class tomorrow is not sure. (主语从句)
汤姆明天是否会来上课还不确定。
What the doctors really doubt is whether my mother will recover from he serious disease soon.
(表语从句)
医生们不确定我母亲是否很快会从严重的疾病中康复。

There is some doubt whether he will come. (同位语从句)
还不确定他是否会来。

④在介词之后作介词的宾语时
例如：
I haven’t settled the question of whether I’ll go back home.
我还没有解决我是否会回家的问题。
⑤在不定式前与不定式一起组成词组时
例如：

Whether to go or stay is still a question.
是去是留仍然是个问题。
