                 【真题演练4】 (2012年专升本)
Many of us want to be responsible citizens of the Earth. We think about the effects our lifestyles
have on the environment. We want to ensure that our children’s future on this planet is one that still has

clear air to breathe, plenty of trees and wildlife, and clean water to drink. However, many of us also think
that the cost might be too great to “go green” in our own office. But that’s not the case. There are 2 areas
where you can have a role to play: paper and lights.
The average American office worker throws out about 150 pounds of paper per year. In America,
paper manufacturing contributes to the deforestation (砍伐森林) of the planet and is responsible for 35

million tons of CO 2 a year. So what can you do? Buy recycled paper, and make full use of your office by
                 printing on both sides.
Another way you can go green in your office is as easy as changing a light bulb. Incandescent (白炽

的) bulbs use 4 times more energy than is necessary to produce light. Alternately, energy-saving bulbs use
75% less energy to produce the same amount of light, last 10 times longer and produce less heat.

                 1. According to the first paragraph, why do we have to think about the effects of our lifestyle on the

                 environment?
                 A. Because we won’t have clean water to drink very soon.
                 B. Because our life is too fashionable.
                 C. Because we want to leave a livable planet to our children.
                 D. Because we live too simple a life.

                 2. What does the writer think about “going green” in our office?
                 A. The cost might be too high.
                 B. Nothing can be done in the office.

                 C. It’s going to be a very hard job.
                 D. It’s not as difficult as we think.

                 3. What are the two things specially mentioned as related to office “going green”?
                 A. Computers and printers. B. Desks and chairs.

                 C. Paper and electric bulbs. D. Telephones and faxes.
